RUSH

USH is a pioneering line-up of the Seventies Progressive rock, who influenced most hard-rock and even heavy-metal power trios. This brilliant band is composed of bassist-singer Geddy LEE, guitarist Alex LIFESON and famous drummer Neil PEART. In 1974 John RUTSEY was replaced by Neil PEART who also assumed the role of the band’s primary songwriter. Their instrumental virtuosity is mind-blowing, their lyrics are some of the best I’ve ever read, and every album they’ve released contains a shattering classic. Through their 20+ yearcareer, they’ve proved to be the masters of their respective instrument while creating incredible music.

Now, a brief summary of the band’s career …
Through the history of RUSH, they have passed through many distinct phases. Every one of these phases represents a triumph in music, allowing the band to move on. As at the end of all of RUSH’s phases, a live LP was released. This tradition began with “All The World’s A Stage”, recorded live at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada. Since then, the group has released three additional live albums: the best selling “Exit… Stage Left” (1981), “A Show of Hands” (1989), and the three-disc set “Different Stages” (1998), which encompasses three decades of the group’smusic.
FIRST PHASE (1974-1976):
In the beginning, they started off as hard rock blues outfit with John-boy before he left and Neil came in, bringing his sci-fi mind into the works. Themusic seems to be a transition between straight-ahead rock tunes and more complex progressive tracks. “Caress of Steel” is a landmark album in the history of RUSH. Lyrically and musically, “2112″ was a masterpiece. This multi-platinum release remains one of RUSH’s best-selling albums.

SECOND PHASE (1977-1981):
They moved headlong into progressive rock in the later part of the decade, starting with the album previous and right on to their massive breakthrough, 1981’s “Moving Pictures”. Synthesizers were now employed bythe band, played in the studio and on stage by Geddy. This was the end of transition from long epic pieces to shorter, more concise, and intricate songs. “Permanent Waves” is widely considered to be second only to “Moving Pictures” asRUSH’s finest achievement.

THIRD PHASE (1982-1989):
RUSH embraced the 1980s sound with “Signals”, making heavy use of synthesizers and keyboards for the first time in the band’s history. Keyboards have become a very large part of the music, and the interplay of guitar, drums, bass, and keyboards became technically almost impossible to play live. The two LPs that followed, “Grace Under Pressure” and “Power Windows”, also followed nearly the same mold. They reached the zenith of its keyboard experimentation with “Hold Your Fire”.

PRESENT PHASE (1990 to today):
Moving to a new label, RUSH embarked on their present phase with “Presto”. So, after mercifully ending their synth period, RUSH went into a sort of pop/rock phase for this stage in their career. They sought to remove the dominance of keyboards in the music, and go back to a bass-drum-guitar sound. But after their tour for their 1996 record “Test For Echo”, the band took six years off before returning in 2002 with the release of their new album “Vapor Trails”. In 2004 they released a covers album, “Feedback” to celebratethe band’s 30th anniversary in the current lineup. A tribute to Rush’s early influences it contains covers of such luminaries as “Cream”, “The Who” and “Blue Cheer”.

Anthem Entertainment has announced the release of "WORKING MEN," the first 'best of' live performance compilation from renowned rock trioRush . Due in stores and online November 17th, the collection will be released on DVD in partnership with Rounder and on CD via Atlantic Records outside of Canada.

Culled from Anthem Entertainment and Zö Vision's three other Rush DVD releases - Rush in Rio, R30 & Snakes & Arrows Live - "WORKING MEN" features live recordings of the band's greatest hits as well as one previously unreleased track , "One Little Victory" (see attached track listing).

Rush - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart - is without question one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, equally famed for both its virtuoso musicianship and provocative songwriting. Just last year, a career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature praised the band for its continuing artistic vitality, noting that "It's true that Rush doesn't mean today what it did in '76 or even '96. It may mean more." The sentiment was echoed in subsequent pieces published earlier this year in Entertainment Weekly and Spin. Rush's enduring pop culture relevance is perhaps best evidenced by a pair of high profile appearances - a rare national television performance and interview on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" in 2008 (the band's first TV appearance since 1975), and a pivotal role in the storyline of the hit comedy, I Love You, Man. Released this past spring,the band also made a memorable cameo in the film, which starred Paul Rudd and Jason Segal.

Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 1974, Rush has achieved worldwide sales exceeding 35 million units, including such acclaimed works as 1976's "2112," 1981's "MOVING PICTURES," 1996's "TEST FOR ECHO," and 2002's "VAPOR TRAILS."The band's most recent studio collection, 2007's "SNAKES & ARROWS," made a triumphant debut on the Billboard 200 upon its initial release, entering the chart in the #3 spot. Hampir semua gitaris menilai bahwa permainan gitar yang baik adalah yang memberikan rasa/feel yang baik, speed/kecepatan bukanlah segala. Marty Friedman merupakan dewa gitar yang paling melodius dan paling berhati-hati dalam pemilihan nada (Note Selection). Seperti yang diutarakan gitaris Jason Becker bahwa setiap detik, setiap nada yang dimainkan Marty mencerminkan penjiwaan yang sangat mendalam. Marty diakui dunia dengan solonya yang tematik. Album solonya "Scenes" menjadi Album Instrumental Terbaik ke-2 tahun 1993, sekaligus menjadi Gitaris Terbaik nomor 2 tahun 1993 atas solonya pada lagu "Symphony Of Destruction" (Megadeth). Marty Friedman sudah rekaman sejak 1980 bersama group band pertamanya Deuce, namun baru terkenal di dunia musik ketika ia bergabung dengan salah satu group band terbesar: "Megadeth" pada tahun 1990. Sungguh sebuah perjuangan yang berat bagi Marty untuk bergabung dengan Megadeth. Konon ketika Megadeth memilih calon gitaris barunya, Marty membawa perlengkapan gitarnya satu mobil truk untuk meyakinkan bahwa dia serius. Namun di luar dugaanMegadeth justru Megadeth bertambah besar berkat masuknya warna musik yang diusung oleh Marty.

Menonjolnya pengaruh Marty Friedman dapat dirasakan pada album "Rust In Peace" (Megadeth). Tahun lalu Marty memutuskan untuk meninggalkan group band Megadeth yang telah didukung lebih dari 1 dekade (10 tahun), yang kemudian diganti posisinya oleh gitaris Al Pitrelli. Kini Marty baru saja menyelesaikanalbum solo terbarunya dengan judul "Music For Speeding", yang kini telah beredar di Jepang dengan 2 bonus tracks. Album baru ini baru akan beredar di seluruh dunia bulan Februari atau Maret 2003. Warna musik Marty di album baru ini sudah jauh lebih modern dibandingkan album sebelumnya, di mana mixing yang dilakukan di album ini sudah sangat bagus sekali. Sejak tahun 2003 ini Marty telah pindah ke Jepang dan mencoba menjadi warga Jepang selama 1 tahun ini.

Marty sendiri sudah cukup mengegerkan dunia gitaris pada tahun 1987 sebagai pemain gitar tercepat di dunia ketika dia bergabung dengan Jason Becker dalam group band Cacophony. Marty & Jason Becker dipertemukan oleh produser Mike Varney. Mike Varney menemukan Marty di bar & Jason Becker melalui rekaman demonya, akhirnya Mike Varney mencoba untuk menyatukan musik Marty yang berbau Jepang dan Jason Becker dengan pengaruh musik klasiknya yang kental. Kemudian terbentuklah group band Cacophony dengan 2 album yang menderu-deru yang sangat disegani oleh para shredder dunia yaitu "Speed Metal Symphony" (1997) dan Go Off! (1998).

Tidak dapat dipungkiri betapa besarnya pengaruh musik Jepang terhadap permainan Marty, akhirnya Marty berhasil menggaet artis New Age yang sangat terkenal yaitu Kitaro untuk menjadi produser dialbum new age pertamanya Marty: Scenes. Semua proses rekaman Marty di beberapa album solonya direkam di studio rekamannya Kitaro. Album tersebut diwarnai dengan orkestra ditambah dengan instrumen lain seperti biola, piccolo, cello, koto, shakuhachi, dan piano.

Tokyo Jukebox is a studio album by the American guitarist Marty Friedman. The album is a collection of his cover of 11 J-pop songs and 1 J-Rock song, produced and arranged by Marty Friedman himself. Permainannya mulai dari blues, jazz, rock sampai klasik dan ethnic music. Permainan gitarnya pun tidak terbatas pada komunitas gitar saja tetapi juga bagi orang-orang awam yang tidak mendalami gitar. Pada umur 6 tahun, Steve mulai belajar piano. Pada umur 10 tahun, Steve mulai belajar bermain akordeon. Pada umur 13 tahun barulah Steve mulai mendalami gitar dan sejak saat itu lahirlah seorang dewa gitar yang baru.Steve Vai mengawali karirnya dengan album debutnya Flex-Able Leftovers pada tahun 1984. Pada tahun 1990, Steve merilis album keduanya yang berjudul Passion and Warfare. Album ini mendapat pengakuan internasional dan Steve memenangkan polling pembaca majalah Guitar Player dalam 4 kategori yang berbeda. Album Steve yang ketiga berjudul Sex & Religion dirilis tahun 1993 dan album keempatnya Alien Love Secrets dirilis tahun 1995. Pada tahun 1996 album kelima Steve Fire Garden dirilis.
Tahun 1999, Steve meluncurkan album keenamnya yang berjudul Ultra Zone. Dalam album ini Steve lebih banyak memfokuskan dirinya dalam komposisi lagu dan bereksperimen dengan gitarnya. Tahun 2001 album The Seventh Song dirilis dan album ini berisi lagu-lagu slow/ballad yang pernah dirilis Steve dengan ditambah beberapa lagu baru. Dan di tahun 2001 Alive in an Ultra World pun dirilis. Steve Vai juga pernah memproduksi 2 album Natal yang berjudul Merry Axemas Vol.1 dan Merry Axemas Vol.2, juga konser G3 bersama Joe Satriani dan Eric Johnson/Kenny Wayne Shepherd dan terakhir John Petrucci turut juga bergabung dalam G3. Belakangan ini Steve Vai lebih memfokuskan diri bereksperimen pada permainan gitarnya dan sekarang ini band Steve Vai ditambah seorang pemain bass yang sudah tidak asing lagi buat fans-fans rock tahun 80-an, Billy Sheehan.

Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues -- it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) -- into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts. More than any other band, Led Zeppelin established the concept of album-oriented rock, refusing to release popular songs from their albums as singles. In doing so, they established the dominant format for heavy metal, as well as the genre's actual sound.

Led Zeppelin formed out of the ashes of the Yardbirds. Jimmy Page had joined the band in its final days, playing a pivotal role on their final album, 1967's Little Games, which also featured string arrangements from John Paul Jones. During 1967, the Yardbirds were fairly inactive. While the Yardbirds decided their future, Page returned to session work in 1967. In the spring of 1968, he played on Jones' arrangement of Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man." During the sessions, Jones requested to be part of any future project Page would develop. Page would have to assemble a band sooner than he had planned. In the summer of 1968, the Yardbirds' Keith Relf and James McCarty left the band, leaving Page and bassist Chris Dreja with the rights to the name, as well as the obligation of fulfilling an upcoming fall tour. Page set out to find a replacement vocalist and drummer. Initially, he wanted to enlist singer Terry Reid and Procol Harum's drummer B.J. Wilson, but neither musician was able to join the group. Reid suggested that Page contact Robert Plant, who was singing with a band called Hobbstweedle.

After hearing him sing, Page asked Plant to join the band in August of 1968, the same month Chris Dreja dropped out of the new project. Following Dreja's departure, John Paul Jones joined the group as its bassist. Plant recommended that Page hire John Bonham, the drummer for Plant's old band, the Band of Joy. Bonham had to be persuaded to join the group, as he was being courted by other artists who offered the drummer considerably more money. By September, Bonham agreed to join the band. Performing under the name the New Yardbirds, the band fulfilled the Yardbirds' previously booked engagements in late September 1968. The following month, they recorded their debut album in just under 30 hours. Also in October, the group switched its name to Led Zeppelin. The band secured a contract with Atlantic Records in the United States before the end of the year. (read more)
