Deep Purple

biography:

The archetypal hard rock band, hugely influential, and still alive and well after almost 40 years, DEEP PURPLE were formed in Hertford (England) in 1968. Their earliest line-up (known as Mark I) featured guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, drummer Ian Paice (who was to be the only constant member in all the numerous incarnations of the band), keyboardist Jon Lord, bassist Nick Simper and vocalist Rod Evans. Their first album, "Shades of Deep Purple", included a cover of JOE SOUTH's "Hush", which became a big hit in the USA. The following two efforts were definitely more progressive in tone, especially their third, self-titled album, which saw Lord's masterful, classically-influenced use of the B3 Hammond organ steal the limelight.

In 1969, Evans and Simper were fired, to be replaced by two former Episode Six members, bassist Roger Glover and legendary vocalist Ian Gillan, who had also starred in the lead role in the original version of Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice's "Jesus Christ Superstar". This line-up, which is widely known as DEEP PURPLE Mark II, gave the band international renown - even though their first album, Lord's pet project "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" (recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) was poorly received.

With Gillan and Glover on board, DEEP PURPLE recorded a series of extremely successful albums, which saw them blend the progressive stylings of their first three albums with an increasingly harder-edged approach, like 1970' ground-breaking "In Rock". Their sound featured lengthy, dazzling duels between Lord's Hammond and Blackmore's Stratocaster, punctuated by Gillan's sky-high screams - nowhere better embodied than in their stunning, 1972 live album, "Made in Japan". In the same year, they released "Machine Head", one of the essential rock albums of all time, which featured the seminal riff of "Smoke on the Water" (inspired by a true episode happened during the recording of the album itself in Montreux, Switzerland), as well as other classics such as "Highway Star" and "Space Truckin'".

Unfortunately, ego clashes and differences in musical direction caused the departure of both Gillan and Glover, who were replaced by an already established musician (also possessed of awesome pipes), former TRAPEZE bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes, and an unknown singer from North Yorkshire, David Coverdale, whose deep, bluesy voice was distinctly different from Gillan's high-pitched wail. The first Mark III album, "Burn", released in 1974, ranks amongstthe band's best efforts, with the furious, barnstorming title-track quickly becoming another mainstay of their live performances.

However, Hughes's leanings towards funk and soul clashed with Blackmore's own musical orientation, which led to the latter's split fromthe band immediately after the release of "Stormbringer". He was replaced by American whizzkid Tommy Bolin, formerly with JAMES GANG, who had also played on Billy Cobham's ground-breaking first solo album, "Spectrum". Unfortunately, Bolin was a drug addict, while Hughes had also begun his descent into alcoholism and cocaine addiction. The band's only Mark IV album, 1975's "Come Taste the Band", is a highly underrated masterpiece of funk-tinged hard rock. It also signalled the dissolution of the band, after Bolin's tragic death of a heroin overdose in 1976.

It seemed to be the end for DEEP PURPLE, and as a matter of fact it was for nearly eight years - until the five original MK II members got together and decided to give it a go once again. The result was 1984's excellent "Perfect Strangers", a true return to form whose magnificent, Eastern-tinged title track has since become one ofthe band 's undisputed classics. However, the idyll was not fated to last: 1987's "The House of Blue Light" was a much weaker effort, and the tensions between Blackmore and Gillan resurfaced, causing the latter to leavethe band . He was replaced by Blackmore's former RAINBOW sidekick, American vocalist Joe Lynn Turner, whose presence on 1990's "Slaves and Masters" album gavethe band's sound a definitely AOR slant that put off many of their earlier fans. In 1992, Gillan rejoined the band in order to record the aptly-titled "The Battle Rages On"; however, during the tour in support of the album his conflict with Blackmore got out of hand, and theguitarist left - this time, never to return.

DEEP PURPLE managed to complete the tour by enlisting the help of guitar wonder JOE SATRIANI, who nevertheless declined their offer to jointhe band permanently. They found Blackmore's replacement in yet another American, former DIXIE DREGS and KANSAS guitarist Steve Morse. A legend in his own right, Morse brought fresh ideas to the band , as well as a much more relaxed approach to personal relationships. The new line-up managed to record two albums, "Purpendicular" (1996) and "Abandon" (1998), before, in 2003, founding member Jon Lord leftthe band in order to rest from constant touring and dedicate himself to his own musical projects. His replacement was found in a veteran of the British rock scene, former Colosseum II keyboardist Don Airey. This new version ofthe band is still active and touring in the 21st century. Their latest album, "Rapture of the Deep" (2005), is certainly one of their best efforts since they got back together in 1984. Even in their early sixties, the members ofDEEP PURPLE still have a lot to offer to the rock world.

Band member:

There have been eight different line-ups of Deep Purple. The original Mk. I released three albums, before vocalist Evans and bassist Simper were replaced by Ian Gillan and Roger Glover respectively to create Mk. II.[27] The second line-up is regarded as the "classic"Deep Purple,[28][29] recording In Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head; this line-up lasted until 1973, when Gillan (followed by Glover) left the band. David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes joined to create Deep Purple Mk III,[30] though co-founding member and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left in 1975 to be replaced by Tommy Bolin. Mk. IV lasted only a year and disbanded for what would become eight years after a concert at the Empire, Liverpool, on 15 March 1976.[31] While on hiatus, members concentrated on other projects, including Rainbow (Blackmore and Glover), Whitesnake (Coverdale, Lord and Paice), Black Sabbath and Gillan (both Gillan).

Deep Purple reunited in 1984 with the Mk. II lineup of Gillan, Blackmore, Glover, Paice and Lord.[32] Gillan and Blackmore had a disagreement and the vocalist was fired fromthe band and replaced by Blackmore's former bandmate in Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner. Turner remained until 1992, when the Mk. II lineup came together for the third time. Due to continuing conflicting interests between Gillan and Blackmore, theguitarist left the band for good in the middle of 1993s The Battle Rages On tour. He was replaced with Joe Satriani for the remainder of the shows but could not jointhe band permanently due to contractual issues.

Steve Morse was chosen to be Blackmore's full-time replacement in 1994,[33] and he remains the guitarist to this day. In 2002 the most recent lineup change took place when Jon Lord, who had been in every incarnation of the band until, left the band to pursue personal interests. He was replaced by Don Airey, formerly of Rainbow and Ozzy Osbourne's band, to create the current Mk. VIII lineup. Drummer Ian Paice is now the only member left who has been present in every lineup ofDeep Purple since the band's formation in 1968.

Liquid Tension Experiment

LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT

Liquid Tension Experiment is an instrumental progressive rock/metal supergroup, founded by Dream Theater's drummer Mike Portnoy in 1997. The band has released two albums through Magna Carta Records. A third album, with the absence of John Petrucci, along with a fourth album, with the absence of Jordan Rudess (mostly), were released in 2007 & 2009 ively, both under the name "Liquid Trio Experiment".

Biography:
Mike Portnoy invited Jordan Rudess (keyboard) and progressive rock icon Tony Levin (bass, Chapman Stick) of King Crimson and Peter Gabriel's band to join him. In his instructional video "Liquid Drum Theater", Portnoy said that his first choice for the guitar was Dimebag Darrell, but he was unable to join because of conflicting schedules. Two other primary choices, Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs, Kansas, Deep Purple) and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) were also unavailable. Portnoy then turned to fellow Dream Theater member John Petrucci to fill the position (despite initially wanting to keep the project completely separate from Dream Theater). The combo was formed as a side project to Dream Theater in 1997. Some theorise that Rudess was asked to join Dream Theater largely because of the success of Liquid Tension Experiment. He had already declined a previous offer to join in 1994 and instead became a member of the Dixie Dregs, known for complex, "Southern fusion" instrumental music.

Liquid Tension Experiment released two albums, Liquid Tension Experiment (1998) and Liquid Tension Experiment 2 (1999) on Magna Carta Records. They also played a few live shows in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Mike Portnoy has previously stated in numerous interviews (and on his web site FAQ) that there would not be a third LTE album, as 3/4 of the band is in the current Dream Theater line-up and the material would be too similar; yet there can always be live shows with the same line-up. In 2007 however, he said that a third release is possible, but that his problems with the Magna Carta label are more of an obstacle than getting the band members together to record.[1] A situation that to do with the company that released the Liquid Drum Theater VHS tape using video footage of Liquid Tension Experiment in thestudio without getting the required permission of Magna Carta. Mike Portnoy came back to Magna Carta in 2007 to release the Liquid Trio Experiment's "Spontaneous Combustion" Sessions [1].

Several songs and riffs from the project have been incorporated into Dream Theater's live performances, such as "Instrumedley" from Live at Budokan.

On October 4, 2007, it was announced that LTE would headline NEARfest 2008 in June. On March 29 2008, six Liquid Tension Experiment tour dates in June 2008 were announced to celebrate the bands 10 year anniversary as well to create a "whole new musical experiment".

Liquid Tension Experiment announced that there will be a new live album CD/DVD in mid 2009.

Liquid Trio Experiment

During the recording sessions for their second album, John Petrucci had to leave due to his wife's going into premature labor. During that period, the remaining members, who still had studio time booked, continued to write music in improvisation. On October 23, 2007, a compilation of jams from those sessions was released under the name of Liquid Trio Experiment. The album, called Spontaneous Combustion, was recorded from Mike Portnoy's DATs of the sessions because the original master tapes disappeared before the mixing stage. A few songs from Liquid Tension Experiment 2 were spawned from these jam sessions, including "914", "Chewbacca", and "Liquid Dreams".

Liquid Trio Experiment 2

The second incarnation of Liquid Trio Experiment happened unexpectedly while playing a concert in Chicago, IL on June 25, 2008. In the middle of their set, Jordan Rudess' keyboard started playing half steps every fourth key. At the end of playing Universal Mind, he went off stage to talk to the tech crew to see if it could be fixed. In the meantime, the other three musicians on stage continued to play, improvising for what turned out to be the rest of the concert. Rudess was on the phone with Roland for most of the time, and finally realized the keyboard was unfixable in that time, so he came onstage and took Petrucci's guitar to jam with the band. Petrucci took Levin's bass, and Levin joined in on chapman stick. After a while, Charlie Benante from the band Anthrax came and played drums while Portnoy played bass. This entire improvised concert was released in 2009 as When the Keyboard Breaks: Live inChicago

Dream Theater

John Myung, John Petrucci, James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess, Mike Portnoy

Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Myung, John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy while they attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, before they dropped out to support the band. Though a number of lineup changes followed, the three original members remain today along with James LaBrie and Jordan Rudess.
Dream Theater has become a successful progressive metal band, despite the drop in popularity of the genre since the mid-1970s. Although the band has had a few successful hits (notably "Pull Me Under" in the early 1990s, which received extensive MTV rotation), they have mostly stayed underground for their career.
The band is well known for the technical proficiency of its instrumentalists, who have won many awards from music instruction magazines. Dream Theater's members have collaborated with many other notable musicians. Guitarist John Petrucci has been named as the third player on the G3 tour six times, more than any other invited guitarist, following in the footsteps of Eric Johnson and Robert Fripp.
The band's highest selling album is the gold selling Images and Words (1992), which reached #61 on the Billboard 200 charts.[1] Both the 1994 release Awake and their 2002 release Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence also entered the charts at #32 and #46 respectively and received mostly positive reviews. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence also led toDream Theater becoming the initial band reviewed in the Music Section of Entertainment Weekly during its opening week of release, despite the magazine generally preferring more mainstream music. In 2007, Systematic Chaos entered US Billboard 200 at #19.Dream Theater has sold over two million albums in the U.S., and over 8 million records worldwide.[3] The band has finished recording their tenth studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings, which is scheduled for release on June 23.

REVIEW:

Bersama LaBrie mereka merekam Images And Words yang melambungkan nama mereka ke jajaran internasional dengan hit "Pull Me Under" dan "Another Day". Mereka telah meluncurkan album konsep Metropolis 2: Scenes From A Memory dan album ganda Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.

Juga, not piano yang dimainkan di akhiran "In the Name of God" di 'Train of Thought adalah not yang sama dengan pembukaan "The Root of All Evil" di album berikutnya, Octavarium.

o Tema lagu "Learning to Live" muncul di "Another Day" (menit 2:53)

Train of Thought, studio album ke tujuh mereka, memuat tujuh lagu.

Jordan Rudess

JORDAN RUDESS

Jordan Rudess (born Jordan Charles Rudes on November 4, 1956) is a progressive rock keyboardist best known as a member of the progressive metal band Dream Theater. DigitalDreamDoor.com voted Rudess #20 on the list of Greatest Rock Keyboardists Of All Time.

Rudess was born in 1956 into a Jewish family. He was recognized by his 2nd grade teacher for his piano playing and was immediately given professional tuition. At nine, he entered the Juilliard School of Music Pre-College Division for classical piano training, but by his late teens he had grown increasingly interested in synthesizers and progressive rock music. Against the counsel of his parents and tutors, he turned away from classical piano and tried his hand as a solo prog rock keyboardist.

Eric Sardinas (born 1970) is an American blues-rock guitarist born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is noted for his use of the electric resonator guitar and his live performances. He sometimes sets his guitar alight on stage and during shows in 2000 in Sydney, Sardinas suffered third degree burns to his left wrist.
Sardinas began to play the guitar at age six and leaned toward vintage recordings by such Delta bluesmen as Charlie Patton, Bukka White, Big Bill Broonzy, Elmore James and Muddy Waters. Although he was left-handed, he eventually started to play right-handed and his impressive style may be due to this fact. "The rawest, most emotional music is what sparked my excitement for the blues", Eric says. "I still listen to music from the 20s and 30s on a daily basis. That's where it all began".
In 2002, he featured on the Bo Diddley tribute album Hey Bo Diddley - A Tribute!, performing the song "Ride On Josephine".
He is currently signed to Steve Vai's Favored Nations record label and was the opening act for Vai's The Real Illusions Tour 2005 around the world.
On February 19, 2008, Sardinas was to release his latest CD Eric Sardinas and Big Motor on Steve Vai's Favored Nations record label in the U.S. The CD was to be released in Canada on April 1, followed by an international release on April 28. The release was supported by a 2008 tour, starting in the U.S. before going to Europe.
