Dark Moor

Dark Moor

Biography

Dark Moor was formed in 1994 in Madrid, Spain, and recorded their debut album ,"Shadowland", in the summer of 1999. Dark Moor played live supporting Demons & Wizards on their Spanish Tour.

Dark Moor began the recording sessions for their second album, "The Hall of the Olden Dreams", in August 2000 at New Sin Studios with producer Luigi Stefanini. During these recording sessions, the band recorded their cover of "Halloween", which was included on the CD "The Keepers of Jericho" - A Tribute to Helloween - (Arise Records). Their E.P "The Fall of Melnibone" was released in June 2001. This E.P was a limited edition; 1500 copies were released, and only for the Spanish market.

Dark Moor began the recording of their third album, "The Gates of Oblivion", in Autumn 2001 at New Sin Studios. Dark Moor signed with the major label J.V.C for the Asian release. The band played 18 gigs at festivals such as Rock Machina, Viña Rock and Nit De Reis. After the first part of the tour, keyboardist Roberto Peña left the band and the band was forced to finish the tour with a guest musician.

In August 2003 Dark Moor recorded four new exclusive acoustic tracks along with a string quartet, to be included in "Between Light and Darkness", which was released in April 2003. Due to differing points of view regarding the musical direction for the next Dark Moor album, vocalist Elisa Martin, guitarist Albert Maroto and drummer Jorge Sáez decided to leave Dark Moor to start a new band.

The two remaining members of the band decided to start a search for new members. After the auditions, they accepted vocalist Alfred Romero, guitarist Jose Garrido, and drummer Andy C.

In August 2003, the band started recording their fourth album, "Dark Moor", at New Sin Studios in Italy. Following a month of recording sessions, the album was mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox.

On November 23rd, 2006, the band announced the departure of their drummer on their official website, due to "incompatibility with his other musical projects." He would go on to play drums for Saratoga. His replacement, Roberto Cappa, was previously in the Spanish metal band Anima Sola.

Arwen

Arwen

ARWEN began in the middle of 1996 from an idea of JOSE A. GARRIDO (guitar) and LUISMA HERNANDEZ (bass) with the intention of reflect in their music a melodic metal with progressive and aggressive dyes.

In 1997 NACHO RUIZ joins the band as guitarist and vocalist, later he decicated only to the vocals. In this period, a mixture of ideas from the three composers gave its fruit and there appears songs of the current setlist with certain Celtic influence. MAMEN CASTANO became another incorporation, since the group needed the support of a female voice for sweeter and softer tones.

NACHO ARRIAGA's incorporation (drums), ROSALVA ALONSO (keyboards) and ALBERTO AVILES (guitar) carried out throughout 1999. The same year the band recorded the demo "At The End..." with the one that performed several concerts sharing stage with bands as DEF CON DOS or SEGURIDAD SOCIAL giving place to, during 2000, be part in several contests like Villa De Madrid.

After this facts, during these two years, the band considers a professional career in music. This new mentality takes them, due to their passion for the spectacle and the live show, to the incorporation of an eights member, who finally would be JONATHAN ZAPATERO (keyboards), becoming a group of a powerful live and without sampled parts: This fact is the reason of Arwen's line-up with eight members.

Arwen signs with Arise Records in December 2001, and in May 2002 they released their first album "Memories Of A Dream" and also the Helloween's cover "March Of Time" who will be included in "The Keepers Of Jericho Part II" tribute to Helloween.

"Memories Of A Dream" introduces a band with very clear ideas, a defined particular sound and many new things to contribute to the current musical scene. "Memories..." is edited in Europe, E.E.U.U, Russia, Greece, Mexico and Taiwan, with a very good acceptance and finally in Japan, whereArwen has achieved the major number of sales.

During the "Memories" tour JONATHAN ZAPATERO" decides to leave the band to continue with his personal side projects and career in London. After trying several new keyboard players they choose their new member; JAVI DIEZ. With this stable line-up they could finish their tour and start working in the next record.

After several months of hard work, composing and preparing the new songs, the band shuts themselves in the New Life Studios to record the second album "Illusions" which was released in November 2004. This new work, according to the reviews, overcomes undoubtedly all the created expectations.

Stratovarius

Stratovarius

History

1982 - 1989
Stratovarius was founded in 1982 in Finland under the name Black Water. The founding members were Tuomo Lassila, Staffan Stråhlman, and John Vihervä. In 1983, the name was changed to Stratovarius (a portmanteau of Stratocaster and Stradivarius), an idea of Stråhlman's. In 1984, Timo Tolkki joined the band, replacing Stråhlman on guitar, as well as contributing vocals and assuming most of the songwriting. He brought along not only strong rock influences, but also a neo-classical style.
The band released a demo to various record companies by 1987 and was picked up by CBS Finland. In 1988, they released their first two singles, "Future Shock" and "Black Night," followed by their 1989 debut album Fright Night. Their "Future Shock" single was filmed the same year, becoming theirfirst music video.

1990 - 1993
After being dropped by CBS, the band went through several member changes, but in 1991 they managed to release the album Stratovarius II on Bluelight Records, which was re-released as Twilight Time through Noise Records the next year. The album was followed by one single, "Break the Ice," in 1992.

1994 - 1995
In 1994, Stratovarius released their third album, Dreamspace, featuring new bass player Jari Kainulainen, who joined the band when 70% of the new material was already recorded. No singles or music videos were recorded for the album.

Tolkki decided to stop singing for the band, and they hired a full-time singer, Timo Kotipelto. The release of Fourth Dimension in 1995 was a huge success for the band, and had a following single called "Wings of Tomorrow." The song "Against the Wind" was filmed without any single support.

1996 - 1997
Despite the success of Fourth Dimension, internal differences - particularly of the style the band was going for - prompted the departure of long-time drummer Tuomo Lassila and keyboardist Antti Ikonen. Two new non-Finnish members were recruited: Swedish keyboardist Jens Johansson (of Yngwie Malmsteen fame) and German drummer Jörg Michael.

With the fifth release Episode in 1996, Stratovarius had finally found its sound and had a strong, diverse line-up. Episode featured a large choir and a string orchestra. It was another commercial success. It resulted in two new singles, "Father Time" and "Will the Sun Rise?."

Their next studio album, Visions, was released in 1997 without changes in line-up, and together with it came two singles, "Black Diamond" and "The Kiss of Judas." Both of these were filmed.
1997 also saw the release of their first compilation album, The Past and Now.

1998 - 2002
Destiny was released in 1998, and Infinite in 2000. With these albums, their fame and fan-base expanded, and they started gaining a stronger following outside Scandinavia, particularly in Japan. While Destiny only resulted in one single, "SOS," Infinite resulted in three: "Hunting High and Low," "It's a Mystery," and "A Million Light Years Away."

In 2000, Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica went on a tour with one of the biggest bands of Power metal, Rhapsody, to support them on their first tour.
In these years, Stratovarius also released three new compilation albums: The Chosen Ones in 1999, 14 Diamonds in 2000, and Intermission in 2001.
[edit]2003 - 2004
In 2003, the band released its most epic project yet, the two-album suite named Elements. With these albums, they reached a peak in their progressive and symphonic style of power metal. Thefirst album, Elements, Pt. 1, was released in early 2003, followed by a world tour. The same year, it was followed by Elements, Pt. 2, both released on Nuclear Blast.

In late 2003, the band broke up, with Timo Kotipelto and Jörg Michael leaving after a very vaguely-explained conflict. Tolkki hired a new singer, Katriina "Miss K" Wiiala, and Anders Johansson of Hammerfall (Jens' brother) temporarily on drums. The rest of 2004 saw almost complete silence from the band.

Despite the break-up, the band still had to finish off their Elements tour. While touring in Spain, Tolkki was announced to have been attacked by a furious fan. Rock magazines and tabloid papers showed pictures of the stabbed guitarist. However, some time later news begun to spread that no stabbing actually happened. Around the same time, Tolkki was hospitalized because of severe mental illness.

It was later revealed by Keyboardist Jens Johansson on the band's forum that the break-up never happened, and that Miss K and Anders were hired as a publicity stunt to generate buzz around the band. The stabbing was also reported to have been a publicity stunt.

2005 - 2007
In January 2005, it was announced that Stratovarius had reunited with the former line-up. In June 2005, Tolkki announced that the band's bassist, Jari Kainulainen, had left the band due to personal reasons. He was replaced by Lauri Porra, a young Finnish musician.

Stratovarius then released the self-titled album Stratovarius in September 2005. During this time, Stratovarius began a world tour, starting in Argentina, which included a North American leg, where they toured the United States and Canada for thefirst time in the band 's history. They played at such events as Atlanta's ProgPower, and in well-known venues such as B.B. King's House Of Blues in New York and Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre. The tour also included European and Japanese cities.

2008
After a long period of silence, on March 4, 2008, Timo Tolkki officially stated the break-up of Stratovarius on his site. Internal tensions within the band were cited as the cause, saying that Lauri Porra and Jens Johansson were his only supporters, Jörg Michael was more focused on his session work, and Kotipelto was best for having a band by himself. The band was planning to release a new studio album, codenamed R.... R....., in 2008. Instead, however, Tolkki will be releasing the album himself in June 2008, and will be forming a new band around the album, called "Revolution Renaissance".
The remaining members of Stratovarius, however, posted a statement online giving their side of the story. They concluded by saying that the band was very much alive, but that Tolkki will no longer be a part of it.

Tolkki rebutted with another statement online, his final statement, wherein he waived the rights to the Stratovarius name, as well as all profits from their back-catalogue. Since Tolkki has written 95% of all Stratovarius songs since 1989, the continuation of the band without Tolkki would almost certainly change the musical direction of the band.

On August 22, Stratovarius announced that the new guitarist would be Matias Kupiainen. Over fifteen new songs were written and recorded as demos for the new album.

2009
In February 2009, Stratovarius announced the upcoming release of Polaris, which is set for May 21st, 2009[4]. There is an accompanying tour planned for May 2009.

Transfer of rights
In May 2008, Timo Tolkki signed over the Stratovarius catalog, the Stratovarius name, and all royalties to Timo Kotipelto, Jens Johansson, and Jörg Michael.[5]

Band History

Origin San Francisco, California, USA
Genres Heavy Metal,Speed metal,Neo-classical metal
Years active 1986–1989
Labels Shrapnel

Cacophony was an American metal band formed in 1986 by guitarists Marty Friedman and Jason Becker. Cacophony is often recognized for its technically challenging, neo-classical metal and speed metal elements, as well as featuring two shred guitarists. The band broke up in 1989, with Friedman joining the successful thrash metal band Megadeth and Becker joining David Lee Roth's solo band.

Their first album, the predominantly instrumental Speed Metal Symphony, fused classical and hard rock styles with Friedman's preference of exotic scales (especially obvious in the song "The Ninja"). It featured exceptionally fast, melodic and technical music.
Their second release Go Off! was a more song-oriented album, while still displaying the virtuosity of the two guitarists. Besides Becker, Friedman and Marrino, it featured a new bassist and a new drummer. The drums were played by Deen Castronovo, however the picture of new drummer Kenny Stavropoulos was included on the back cover and one tour (the last) in the USA and Japan was with Kenny Stavropoulos and with vocalist - Dan Bryant (Hexx). The guitar playing is more technical and the harmonization of the lead lines and solos are different from the common twin-guitar harmonies made common inheavy metal by such bands as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

Breakup
Though the second album was a commercial failure, it spawned cult followings around the band. Cacophony broke up with Jason Becker joining David Lee Roth and Marty Friedman joining Megadeth. Friedman and Becker have since left Megadeth and David Lee Roth's band respectively (in Becker's case due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Both released several solo albums that include a wide variety of music.

Micahel angelo batio - guitar lesson video

MICHAEL ANGELO BATIO

This is Michael Angelo Batio's follow-up to the legendery shredder's bible "Speed Kills. Instead of being more difficult than the original
it's actually more approachable.

Yes, there are plenty of spectacular exercises and
licks in this program but it's
still basic enough for even an intermediate guitarist to enjoy.

Regardless of your level of playing experience, this will
take you to the next level.

Michael Angelo Batio

Speed Kills 2 begins with an the amazing six-minute live performance of Rain Forest from Michael's No Boundaries CD (above). Then, the program is divided into two sections. The first half is all about warm-up. These exercises are easy to learn but challenging to master.

They're guaranteed to increase finger dexterity and picking speed. One of the exceptional aspects of this approach is the unique combination of alternate and sweep picking explained here.

Part 2 covers the many aspects of Michael's unique style. Although he's known for his incredible speed, this isn't just about speed. He teaches jazz phrases in the style of Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt and explains how these masters have influenced his music. In these twelve exercises he not only teaches you the different styles that have influenced his playing but also explains how to apply this to your own music.

But you expect even more from Speed Kills 2 don't you? You won't be disappointed. Michael throws in several "hyper-speed" exercises that will keep you in your room shredding until you're a better guitarist. Isn't that what you really want?

All exercises feature picture-in-picture picking and fretting hands to view both in close-up detail. Every exercise is played at slow speed, normal speed, and includes animated on-screen tab. Just use your DVD player's remote to pause, review, and skip forward. There are 96 chapters in this program so finding any single section is as simple as punching the chapter number into your DVD player's remote and pressing select. This program is 57 minutes in length.

There are additional files included for those who have a computer with a DVD drive. These files include a printable form of tablature, animated play along tab, and a complete chapter list. If you don't have a DVD drive please send us your name, address, and tab request in an e-mail message. We'll send you these files via e-mail. This is bonus material, so even if you don't have a computer these files aren't necessary to master this program.
